Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the top questions that we answer on our website.
1. How do I buy the CDs that I have found on your
site?
This site represents the
international catalogue, and we don’t sell CDs from our website. For now please
use this site as a guide to what CDs are available in your favorite local record
store, through mail order companies or through sites that sell directly from
the internet.
2. I’ve checked with my
local record store and they tell me the CD that I want is no longer available.
Why not? It’s listed on your site.
Please keep in mind that our site gives every CD that is released internationally
but that availability varies from country to country. Unfortunately, every product
is not available in every country around the world for an unlimited period of
time. Recordings that are extremely popular in one country are speciality items
in another. The beauty of mail order and internet purchase is that it helps
you find and purchase what you want.
3. I just read about a
new recording in my favorite music magazine that I want to buy. However my local
shop tells me that it won’t be out yet for a few months. Why?
A good question - an honest
answer has many possible reasons. One answer has to do with different manufacturing
and marketing leadtimes. In some countries this cycle is 2 weeks and in others
it is up to 3 months. Another answer is that “timing is everything.”
Say a new recording of your favorite artist becomes available from us in August
but (s)he is coming to your country to do concerts in October. The folks at
our company locally will want to coordinate the release of the CD with the presence
of the artist to create the most attention and excitement for the artist and
the CD. Everyone talks about things when they are new so it’s natural to
try and make the most of those opportunities.
4. I’m glad I found your site because I’m just getting
interested in classical music. Can you recommend some music to me? It’s all so
confusing.
Welcome to the world of classical music! You’ll find that
it’s a wonderful addition to your life but you’re right, for somebody new the
amount of information can be overwhelming. You could start by having a look at
Universal Classics (www.universalclassics.com) Decca
Classics (www.deccaclassics.com), or
at Deutsche Grammophon (www.deutschegrammophon.com
).
