- Mikhail Arkadiev
was born in Moscow in 1958. In 1978, he graduated as a pianist
from the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow and entered the
piano faculty of the Gnessin Institute as a member of Professor
Alexandrov's class. In 1988, he completed his post graduate
studies in the same class. At the same time, he devoted himself
to composition and the study of music theory.
- He has already
written a number of compositions for piano as well as vocal
and chamber works including a mass for choir and organ. He also
has a career as a solo pianist, as well as being occupied with
teaching. He now occupies the chair of the piano department
at the Academy of Choral Art in Moscow.
- In 1992, his book
The Temporal Structure of New European Music: An Essay of Phenomenological
Study was published.

It deals with problems
of musical time, rhythm, and articulation from Bach to Brahms.
His academic field of interest also includes existential phenomenology
and culturology.
- At present, Mr.
Arkadiev gives solo concerts in Russia and Germany. He made
his Berlin recital dŽbut in 1990.
- His partnership
with Dmitri Hvorostovsky began in March of 1990. Mr. Arkadiev
has since then accompanied Hvorostovsky on tours to Europe,
America, and East Asia, with appearances in New York, Paris,
Amsterdam, and the Pacific Music Festival. The New York Times
called him a "wonderful partner of Hvorostovsky" and the Figaro
"a sensational accompanist whose piano sounds like an orchestra."

is Mikhail Arkadiev's second release with Philips Classics -
he also accompanied Dmitri Hvorostovsky on a previous release
My Restless Soul, with songs by Borodin, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky
Korsakov and Tchaikovsky.
