RECORDING INFORMATION | |||
This release features Verdis masterpiece La traviata in a recording by a star cast led by star conductor Zubin Mehta. For a long time this recording was only available at top price; but now it has been reissued to take its place in the Duo series alongside other Verdi masterpieces such as Il trovatore, Rigoletto and A Masked Ball. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is heard in her only recording of the tragic character Violetta. Also featured here are Alfredo Kraus as Alfredo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Alfredos father and Olga Borodina as Annina. La traviata is an opera in which all of Verdis finest qualities are to be perceived: his technical mastery, his clarity, his humanity, his psychological penetration and his unerring taste. The complete opera is now available (without libretto) on two CDs for the price of only one Top price CD. |
