RECORDING INFORMATION
Elgar’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra is one of the most popular in the field. This is the famous Philips recording of Julian Lloyd Webber accompanied by Sir Yehudi Menuhin as conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Julian Lloyd Webber and Sir Neville Marriner’s Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields also perform another cello concerto by another great British composer, William Walton.

There’s hardly a better conductor imaginable for the Elgar concerto than Menuhin. After all, he knew exactly how the composer wanted his music to sound — proof of which can be found on the definitive 1932 recording he made of Elgar’s Violin Concerto, conducted by the composer himself.

Two cello concertos by two great British composers, and all in 24 bits-96kHz sound for the Philips 50 series.
