RECORDING INFORMATION

Aguas da Amazonia is the fourth album from Uakti (Wah-ke-chee). Legendary composer Philip Glass wrote the music for the group to interpret in their own inimitable way. Glass remarks, "Years ago when I first met Uakti, I saw their music and performance as a unique and beautiful contribution to the world of new and experimental music ...This CD represents a true melding of my music with their sensibilities. For me, it is a delight and a pleasure to hear the final result."

The Brazilian group is considered one of the world's most exciting and unique ensembles, praised for its fearless fusion of wide-ranging musical styles from Classical to New Age to World Music. Their name was taken from an Amazon legend: Uakti was a huge creature with holes all over his body, and whenever he ran through the forest, the wind passing through him made wonderful and intriguing sounds. By constructing their own exotic instruments using everyday materials : pipe, glass, metal, rocks, even water, Uakti, like the legendary creature, makes unbelievable sounds that transport music-lovers to an exotic new world.
