RECORDING INFORMATION | |
The pieces in this set give a good idea of the enormous development that the trumpet, its virtuosos and composers traversed in barely a hundred years.
This compilation presents practically all of the famous concertos for trumpet and orchestra of the Baroque and Classical periods as well as some arrangements made for trumpet and organ of famous pieces of that time. Included are the famous Trumpet Concertos by Joseph Haydn and his brother Michael Haydn besides the equally well-received Concertos from Albinoni, Hummel, Hertel, Richter, Stamitz, Molter and Leopold Mozart (Wolfgang Amadeus' father). Apart from the above-mentioned concertos space has been reserved to include the Sonata for Trumpet, 2 Violins and Basso Continuo by Corelli and some music scored for trumpet solo and organ accompaniment that include arrangements from Albinoni's famous Adagio, done by Giazotto, and Gounod's/Bach's Ave Maria and some of Bach's more popular Chorale Preludes. Also included here is Clarke's popular Trumpet Tune which has been attributed to the brilliant English Baroque composer Henry Purcell. All these works are performed by Philips Classics' exclusive artist Håkan Hardenberger, who enjoys a great reputation in both modern and classical repertoire for trumpet, the latter being represented in this issue.
