RECORDING INFORMATION | |
This is the third of three units devoted to the artistry
of one of the most popular and brilliant pianists of the 20th century and
includes much of Arthur Rubinstein's favourite repertoire. Three major sonatas make up the bulk of the repertoire included here: the mighty Sonata in F minor, Op. 5 by Brahms, the Piano Sonata in B flat, D. 960 by Schubert, and Beethoven's Piano Sonata in E flat, Op. 31 No.3. Each of these three sonatas were staples of his repertoire over the last part of his active career and these recordings represent some of the finest performances ever given of the repertoire. The Beethoven Sonata held a particularly appropriate place in the Rubenstein canon, as its light-hearted, decorative, and bouncing qualities seemed to actually be a reflection of Rubenstein the man.
Over 154 minutes of music on two CDs for the price of one.
