RECORDING INFORMATION | |
This is the second of two units devoted to Maurizio Pollini and is made
up entirely of music by Chopin, Pollini's favourite composer. As a boy of 18, Pollini took the first prize in the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1960, immediately after which he recorded Chopin's Piano Concerto in E minor with Paul Kletzki and the Philharmonia Orchestra, a recording which stands today as one of the absolute touchstones in Chopin interpretation. This recording is included here. The unit not only includes early career recordings but also more recent interpretations of Chopin's works such as the Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor from 1984, and the Berceuse and Barcarolle from 1990.
Over 151 minutes of music on two CDs for the price of one.
