- Frans Brüggen is considered one of the foremost experts in the performance
of 18th and early 19th-century music. In 1981 he founded the Orchestra of the
18th Century, which consists of some 50 members from 16 different countries.
His award-winning discography includes works by Purcell, Bach, Rameau, Haydn,
Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn.
- "The result is enlivening, especially in the large choral movements where
Brüggen shapes the music with sensibility, introducing quite a dynamic
range... this account is full of interest, spontaneous, lively and affecting
for the apparent naturalness of Brüggen's approach." (Gramophone on
Bach's St John Passion)
